Last week’s graduation trip was on the boring side for me. Several things decided to happen in the same period of time, which made the graduation trip suck. Firstly, the first day took us on a very boring trip to kaohsiung. I fell asleep from boredom because I didn’t want to risk running out of battery on my phone. When we got to our destination, we took a bus to ping-tung. The bus ride was more fun because the tour guides had fun drawing on our faces as punishment for incorrectly answering questions about the color of a man’s tie. When we got to the hotel, we had free time for a few hours on the beach. The catch was that we weren’t allowed to go into the water. So effectively, they just tossed into a larger sandbox. You know, the sandboxes you can find in playgrounds for little kids. This continued for a few hours until I decided to call quits and I just spent the next few hours camping out in the hotel room, tapping away on my phone.

After dinner, we went outside and basically had an outside dance that forced you to scream at the top of your lungs in order to be heard. I was pretty sure I was half deaf by the end of the dance. We went back to our hotel rooms after this.

Now here comes the more interesting parts. I didn’t mention this, but Chris and Derrick had brought in two hermit crabs into our hotel room for fun, and they left them in a box we found on a table. However, when we got back to our hotel room, one of the was missing. So we went on a mad crab hunt, scouring every single inch of the room, even going as far as checking the toilet and sinks just in case. In the end, we never found it. So we went to bed with our eyes peeled for the shelled creature.

Then disaster struck, I woke up at around 3 AM with a small fever, so I got up to get a drink of water and to relieve myself while I was at it. As I got up off my bed, I noticed a small dark spot on the floor. I dismissed it, thinking it was a piece of scrap that must have flown off the table. After I left the bathroom and examining the dark spot, I realized it was moving. It was the missing hermit crab. I stared at it for a few minutes, not sure what to do with it. On one hand, I needed to get it in the box again, but on the other hand, I was deathly afraid of things that crawled, flyed, or scampered around. I decided I would see if anyone was awake. I looked around the room and saw Chris lift his head up momentarily. Turns out he moved a lot in his sleep. So I was forced to deal with the crab on my own. One hour later, I finally steeled my nerves, and picked up the hermit crab, chucked it into the box, and ran into the bathroom to wipe off imaginary, slimy things that might’ve gotten onto me.

That was day one in a nutshell. Really wasn’t the best field trip I had, but it could’ve been worse. I spent the rest of the night staring at the box, while hearing the hermit crab scratch around inside the box.
